The Eastern Cape NPO forum is awarding unemployed youth people an opportunity to learn about Artificial Intelligence for free. The training will commence on the 1st of May 2025 and will be carried out online.
The program is open to any young adults between the ages of 18 to 40 who reside in the Eastern Cape and is currently unemployed.
In order to be able to join one must one needs to have at least passed Grade 10 and have access to a computer or a smart phone and be fully knowledgeable on how to use the device. The Forum is working with Net Campus and Microsoft to bring this opportunity to 15,000 young people in the province. The goal is to help the youth learn new skills that can help them find jobs in the future.
Mr Thobela Peter Phelusile, the Chairperson of the Forum, said the program is about helping the black child who is often left behind. “We want to make sure our youth are skilled and ready for the world of technology,” he said.
This will be a 30-day course, and it will include lessons such as What Generative AI is, How Search technology has changed, The best ways to use AI, Why AI should be easy to access, How to use Microsoft Copilot, and What cyber security means in the world of AI.
The training will be taught by people who work in the industry. There will also be chances to meet and learn from others who are interested in AI. This will help young people get skills and build networks that can help them get jobs. Mr Nkululeko Mgwayi, Secretary of the Forum, encouraged young people to join. “Even though the deadline is close, we hope our youth apply. This is one way we can fight unemployment together,” he said in closing. The deadline to register is Sunday, 27 April 2025.
