An infant, believed to be three months old, died in a three-vehicle collision on the N2 Kei Cuttings between East London and Butterworth.
The crash happened in wet and slippery conditions when a VW Polo lost control and collided with a bakkie and a Mercedes-Benz.
Four other occupants sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene.
The Eastern Cape Department of Transport has urged motorists to drive with caution as traffic volumes increase ahead of the festive season.
The MEC for Transport has extended condolences to the infant’s family and reminded drivers to slow down and adjust to road conditions.
